The quality of a library is directly related to how collection development decisions are made and implemented. The book explores some of the practical issues that underline collection development, especially in developing countries by undertaking a case study of Chancellor College, a constituent college of the University of Malawi. Some of the issues which the book looks at pertain to existence and role of a collection development programme, and adequacy of funding for collection development activities. Both of these have a direct effect on quality of collections hence goes a long way in determining their suitability to the needs of users. The book also discusses the other factors militating against collection development activities, and ends by offering possible solutions to the problems identified.
