The dramatic world of Tennessee Williams, one of the most powerful of the twentieth century American dramatists, is filled up with the emotionally disturbed characters trapped in a world of repression. The tension emanating out of psychological repression and attempts of sublimation that Williams experiences in his own life owing to his unfavorable family environment and his own sexual preference, is reflected in his creation.
